Bears Struggling in Offense

When many finally saw a solution for Chicago’s struggling offense in Nick Foles, the former Super Bowl MVP laid an egg. The Indianapolis Colts kept the veteran humble against them this Sunday, allowing him 249 passing yards with a pick and a TD. He was way under the expected level.

Allen Robinson II caught seven of Foles 26 completions for 101 yards and a TD, and was the only one able to create something in the attack. If it weren’t for the Bears’ ferocious defense, this match would be solved much earlier, with a bigger difference.

One other factor needs to be mentioned, and that is Chicago’s running game. Hosts had 28 rushing yards on 16 carries, which is embarrassing. David Montgomery had 27 in 10 snaps, and Cordarrelle Patterson 5 on three!

Just to remind you, that Bears have wins over the Lions, Giants, and the Falcons, all of them pretty tight and after hard and strange battles.

Tampa Bay Picking Up the Pace

With three wins in a row, the Bucs are now looking very good. Yet we need to say that these guys had two mediocre teams against them in Weeks 2 and 3, Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. On top of that, both franchises had problems with injuries.

The latest triumph against the LA Chargers saw the Bucs rallying from a 24-7 deficit, and Brady coming back after an early pick-6. The six-time Super Bowl champ finished the game with five TD passes, all of them to different receivers.

With a win here, the Bucs would keep the first place in the NFC South ahead of the Saints and the Panthers. That scenario allows them to wait for the Green Bay Packers without pressure and with a 4-1 record.

Prediction

The spread on the Buccaneers is -5.5, and that is pretty tempting. Brady has problems with interceptions this year, but we still believe in Tampa Bay’s receiving core here. When compared to the Colts, they are much better, and Indianapolis won last week in the Windy City. Leonard Fournette should be back, which will be an additional reason to bet on the guests’ win.

Pick: Bucs -5.5

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won their second franchise Super Bowl on the back of Tom Brady and their outstanding defense. Brady, who joined the team in the offseason, did exactly what he came to town to do and secured his seventh career Super Bowl victory (most all time) while also burying the notion that he is a product of the Bill Belichick system. Todd Bowles orchestrated one of the best defensive performances in Super Bowl history and kept the explosive Kansas City Chiefs offense out of the end zone entirely.

The focus, now, turns to free agents. The Buccaneers are facing one of the toughest free agent classes in the NFL, with defensive superstars Shaquil Barrett, Lavonte David, and Ndomukong Suh set to become free agents. The allure of a championship and the return of Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and Bruce Arians might be enough to return at least two of the three players. Joe Haeg and Antonio Brown lead the names on offense that are on the verge of free agency.

There’s plenty to lose for the Bucs this offseason and next year’s club could look very different. But for the time being, Bucs fans, rejoice. They’re on top of the world.

Buccaneers prop bets

Prop bets are based on individual performance, typically surrounding players. Tom Brady’s first year with the Buccaneers drew plenty of attention, especially when it came to prop betting. For example, Brady’s projected passing total in the Bucs’ Week 14 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings was 265.5 yards. He amassed 196 yards in the win, giving those who bet under his passing total a win.

Buccaneers futures odds

Futures are long-term bets that can range from an offseason to a full season (or beyond). Team win totals, award winners, and player performance are common futures. For example:

2020 Odds to win NFL DROY

  • Chase Young -110
  • Patrick Queen +450
  • Kenneth Murray +1000
  • Jaylon Johnson +1500

This line for the Defensive Rookie of the Year would often be bet before the season starts. Futures allow for bettors to capitalize on players they think are favorites to win awards long before the odds shift away from their favor. For example, Queen opened with odds of +900 to win the DROY award after the NFL Draft; his odds will shift as the season develops based on his performance for the Ravens defense.

Buccaneers Super Bowl LVI odds

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers opened at +900 to win Super Bowl LVI after winning Super Bowl LV. Those odds are tied for second in the NFL and first in the NFC (Packers).

Buccaneers NFC South odds

While the Buccaneers came up short in the 2020 NFC South race, they are expected to be the favorite to take the 2021 NFC South.

How to bet on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Moneyline

The moneyline is the simplest of bets, decided by the straight-up winner and loser of each game. Consider the following example:

  • Bucs -145
  • Patriots +190

The Buccaneers are considered heavy favorites in this matchup (indicated by -145), requiring a $145 bet to win $100 (plus the initial bet back). The Patriots are the underdog in this matchup, paying out $290 total for a $100 bet ($190 in winnings). How much either team wins or loses by does not matter in moneyline betting, the payout remains the same.

Point spread

Betting on the point spread is determinant on how many points a team wins or loses by. Take the following example:

  • Bucs -2.5 (-110)
  • Ravens +2.5 (-110)

In this example, Tampa Bay is favored by 2.5 points, indicated by “-2.5.” If the Bucs win the game 31-27, the Bucs (-2.5) win the bet and would have a total payout of $19.09 on a $10 bet ($9.09 in profit). If the Ravens keep the game within three and lose 33-31 the Ravens (+2.5) would win, and the payout would be the same as listed above.

Point total (over/under)

The point total refers to the over/under line set by books. This number projects the total number of points scored in a game and, like prop betting, is bet whether one thinks the score will go over or under the set point total. For example, the Buccaneers’ Week 8 matchup with the New York Giants had a projected point total of 49.5 points. Tampa Bay won the game 25-23, resulting in 48 combined points. Those that bet under the point total would have cashed out.

The Buccaneers fielded one of the most lethal scoring offenses in the NFL coupled with one of the league’s best defenses. Once the offense found their stride (32.9 points per game after Week 5), Tampa Bay’s games garnered higher than league average over/unders, typically between 49 and 54 points. However, that mark was highly dependent on the opposing offense and its scoring capability.

In-play and live betting

Sometimes, the most thrilling and rewarding bets are bets made while games are being played. These are referred to as live bets or in-play bets. Odds are ever-changing during games, which would prove to be fruitful for sharp and prepared bettors. For example, if the Bucs (-225) were heavily favored against the Panthers (+190) before kickoff, a payout on a $10 bet on the Bucs to win would win just $4.44.

However, say the Bucs fell to a big 17-3 deficit in the first half despite controlling the overall game (due to a costly turnover or special teams gaffe). Odds may swing in favor of the Panthers, who may be a -110 favorite at halftime. Taking the Bucs to come back and win the game could present plus-odds (say, +130). Should a bettor take Tampa Bay (+130) at halftime and the Bucs pull off the comeback, winners would win $13 instead of $4.44 (plus the initial $10 bet).

This could also be an effective way to “hedge” your bet; say a bettor took the Panthers (+190) in that game, but Tampa Bay jumps out to a 17-0 first quarter lead and is controlling the overall feel of the game, bettors could hedge by throwing some money down on Tampa Bay (-270) to return some of the inevitably-lost bet.

Parlays and teasers

You can always string bets together in the form of parlays or teasers. Usually during busy Sundays, bettors can parlay several teams to win or cover against the spread and if all bets are successful, the payouts are multiplied. Teasers function similarly, except they allow bettors to move each point spread to a more favorable line in exchange for diminished odds.

Buccaneers 2020 recap

Record: 11-5

Vegas Odds Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tickets

Record ATS: 9-7

Over/under record: 9-7

It’s hard to analyze any metrics of the Buccaneers besides their Super Bowl win. Outside of a four-game stretch between Weeks 9 and 12 where Tampa went 1-3, Tom Brady’s squad pulled in a 14-2 record. The offense caught fire after Week 4, where they averaged almost 33 points per game (including four games of 40+ points). The Bucs were swept in the regular season by the Saints– marking Brady’s first time being swept in his career– but redeemed themselves by defeating New Orleans in the NFC Championship Game.

Buccaneers 2021 offseason moves

Key free agents: Shaquil Barrett (EDGE), Lavonte David (LB), Rob Gronkowski (TE), Ndomukong Suh (DL), Rakeem Nunez-Roches (DL), Steve McLendon (DL), Leonard Fournette (RB)

Draft pick position needs: EDGE, DL, WR

Just about every rostered interior defensive lineman is set for free agency this offseason. Suh was one of the Bucs’ anchors inside in 2020, but he’s not expected to return at his market value ($8 million guaranteed). The question surrounds Tampa’s star defenders Shaquil Barrett and Lavonte David, who would have to take a team-friendly deal to both re-sign. Chris Godwin was franchise tagged after an injury-plagued season for reevaluation.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Spread

With the last pick of the first round, it’s expected that Tampa will target an interior defensive lineman like Alabama’s Christian Barmore. Other options could include an offensive lineman like Ohio State’s Wyatt Davis or potentially an edge rusher like Texas’ Joseph Ossai or Miami’s Gregory Rousseau if they slip. Another potential option for Tampa is to trade out of the first round to a team looking to get a jump on a running back or Alabama’s Mac Jones, should he slip late.
